Default Anyone Tried This: Poor Man's Vac Pump

I saw this on Racetronix website & could not help but be curious if anybody here has tried this. I'm not sure if factory AIR pump moves enough air to be much/any help. If not could you overdrive it with BAP??? "Flame Suit On"

i didnt use that harness, but had mine hooked up that way. it sucked oil in and the pump quit after a very short time. Dunno if the oil had anything to do with this or not?

Did you incorporate catch can into your design?

this is my home brew from 2001

after a month or so of daily driving the pump stopped working probably from choking on oil.

The pump is not designed to run for any type of extended periods of time. Its purpose is to add extra 'fresh' to the exhaust to help heat up the cats and then turn off. Plus it does not move much air, so the vacuum aspect will be poor at best.

How would it work if used with the racetronix harness that has a hobbs switch with it, so the pump would only work when say above 4 lbs of boost.

I Agree, that is my point of this thread. I know it does not pull much vac, but how much does it pull?? Since it runs only above 3-4psi boost could it be could it be powered by BAP to increase vacuum??...And if others that have tried the unit all to have it fail for ingesting oil, it seems that it was doing its job, however needs some type of catch can, particulate filter, or Watts coalescing filter or combo of the ones listed. Having a centri supercharger on my car there is not much room for genuine belt driven vacuum pump, if someone could invent an alternative it could be helpful to many. Just my $.02

I think this topic was hit on in the external Gen3 section. From what I've read, the stock AIR pump is weak nuts and prone to fail in a short period of time.

The valley cover pulls even more oil than the valve covers. This only works "sort of ok" in a very temporary manner. The pump just isn't up for any real abuse, and will fail in short order.
