Default New Intake Piping: Switched from Soft to Hard

Friday I got my 4" aluminum tubing back from the plating shop after having them hard anodize it (and my new Shrifter paddle shifter parts) dark grey. I always thought this wire-reinforced flexible duct was probably restrictive when making the 180' turn into the Vortech air inlet:

So I removed the radiator overflow (to replace w/smaller tank) and the MSD Multi-Step Retard (will move to behind intake pipe) and used the space to put in large, smooth curves:

Obviously the upper intake pipe has not been re-installled in the 2nd photo.

Think it will help? Anyways, the flex tubing does not like to have anything rubbing on it - eventually the wire reinforcement rubs through the casing, and will let in unfiltered air.

I wish I had bead blasted the piping before coating - I forgot the basic principal of painting & coating - 90% of the outcome of the job is in the prep phase. Although some of this tubing will be covered by thermal barrier tape, there is surface scale and stuff I should have gotten off. Oh well, next upgrade I'll fix it.

When I switched to stainless piping from the flimsy ATI rubber lines I definately felt the boost come on more quickly...

Looks great, nice job !

Chris, I will probably put it back together tomorrow and will either post or send you a picture. If I post I will put it in the Automatic Tranny section.

Rob - thanks!

Websy21 - I started with only a head unit, so the flex hose was my starting inlet. Worked OK for 6K miles, but I always had planned to replace it.

So far, it's all the same mounting HW as before. Since some stuff in the picture is missing, maybe it looks different. I am going to redesign the whole layout in 3/4" aluminum plate over the coming weeks.

Your first picture, the right side of the blower has something that looks like a different support? i have seen it before on people's car but not sure for what.

Couple of questions

Why hard anodize it? I know what it is, but what is your reason for doing it?

Second, if you're going to wrap it anyways, why not just get it jet-hot coated? Has great aesthetics and controls heat too.

It's the best photo and angle. It really shows from other angles. I'm irritated because I should have thought of it - I like my stuff sano from the get go.

SScam68 - I wanted a grey like a lead pencil, and the hard anodizing makes for a very scratch-resistance surface, and it was the same price as regular grey anodizing.
I plan to both wrap the intake pipe for the last corner into the blower intake, and make a SS heatshield to keep the header heat off of it. I like ceramics but don't think it's enough for this location.

94blownz281 - check out my site for fuller photos - that piece you're talking about is part of the mounting brackets/spacers combo.

As for the blower, the Vortech V-1 and V-2 series have the same mounting patterns, lube/drain/vent holes, etc. They are plug n' play except for the blower inlet that is 1/8" larger on the T-trims.
