I vote mechanical. I have an electric one (cobalt) it doesnt show vacuum only boost. And sometimes I wonder about the accuracy of it.

I also have a Cobalt elec boost gauge. I have it connected to one of the aux inputs on my HPT logger along with the wide band & fuel pressure so I can review that stuff after a run & keep my eyes on the track ahead of me.

what is the difference, besides the price, between mechanical and electrical?

mechanical is purely meachnical, no electronics. it needs a physical vacumn signal - (vacumn line)

electronic uses a transducer to convert vacumn/boost into 0-5v signal, sends it via wires to gauge which usually displays as a #

electronics are nice sometimes as you aren't running a vacumn line through the firewall/cabin

it would not be to hard to make your own gauge with the help of an oem map sensor suited for your application.

The gauge I have actually comes with a MAP sensor. You hook the vacuum line to it and then run the electrical lines from it as well. I just question its accuracy mainly because I have a procharger and it will read 3psi revving in neutral.

I vote Zeitronix lcd electric gauge. They read EGT, AFR, Boost/vacuum, and Lambda. It has one of the faster updates and also has data logging. I currently use one in my daily beater (1st gen dodge neon with an srt swap,) and I love it.

Ya I thought mechanical would be more accurate cause it is a direct line to the gauge just wanted to make sure and ask questions before I order stuff ...I am gonna think about trying to put the gauge in my vent because space is getting tight than guys

It does not record peak boost nor warn of over boost for those with adjustable waste gates.... I like it, dammit!

I vote electrical all the way. The electrical uses a vacuum line just as the mechanical one does, however the electrical ones have been proven to be more accurate (not that the mechanical ones are way off though). I also have an electrical full sweep boost/vacuum gauge and I can tell you it is awesome, not to mention almost a must have for those needing to be warned about boost levels and being able to recall peak boost levels.

The only thing I don't like about mine is that I got the gauge that peaks at 30#'s of boost when I only make 15#'s. I am currently selling my gauge so I can get another electrical one that peaks at 15#'s.

Here's a link to my gauge. In it is a video of the full sweep electrical gauge in action for those who wanted to see how it works compared to the mechanical one.
