Default OFI Kit - oil drain

We are finally getting the car back together and I noticed that the oil drain line is not at a downward slope from the turbo. I would say the line is almost straight across if not at a slight upward angle. Have any of you experienced smoking problems with this kit? If so, what have you done to fix the problem?

TTT for the day. Seems like a simple question in general for any turbo kit, surprised no one has answered this. I'm interested as well, since I have the OFI kit too. I'm pretty sure it would need to be at a downward slope for gravity drain though IMO. Where did you attach the drain at, the front of the oil pan?

just loosen the bolts holding the compressor end to the turbine end and rotate it so the drain is a 6 o'clock and the feed is at 12 o'clock.

Have some reference pics? I've been told that my drain is not sloped enough and might be causing my oil in the cold pipes.

I don't seem to be having any smoking issues. Starting to think its from one of the valve cover ports being vented to the turbo inlet.

mine is rotated so that the drain is at about 7 oclock (looking from drivers side to passenger side)....drain rotated towards the front of the car, then i used a fitting that is like a 35 degree angle...kinda like this.... /__ ......and straight shot to the pan. my drain is level and no smoking probs

Just clock the housings how you need them so that the drain hole is down

Cablebandit and Ls2 camaro are both running a T6 flange and the crossover pipe is different. I believe the drain flange is just a little higher with the T6 setup. I'm pretty sure your using a T4 flange crossover Zangel, I have the t4 also and the drain is just about perfectly level with the outlet into the pan if you tap it in front just below the timing cover. Joel did mine when he was making the kit, and while its not ideal its worked so far. I drove the car round trip from Cleveland to Memphis last summer to the shootout and put 1800+ miles on it doing so and didn't have any smoking issues. I was planning on doing what Cablebandit said, and make the drain fittings shorter too just for piece of mind this summer. I'm pretty sure there are only 2 other T4 OFI kits out there, the 1 that was in GMHPT(forgot SN) and GotV8 and I don't think they had any problems.
