Default boost with 5.3L heads

would i be ok running a blower on a car with 5.3l heads? i know this raises the compression a bit so im not sure if it would be ideal in a boosted setup.

depends on what pistons are in the car?? have the heads been milled??

you need to use a compression calculator and see what the Static compression would be. then at that point talk to your engine builder and/or tuner to see how much boost you'd be able to run on pump gas before having to switch to a higher octane to avoid detonation.

The 5.3L heads have 58cc unmilled and that should put you about 11.3:1 on a 346 CID. Way too high to run anything more than a 4 or 5 pounds of boost. Swapping heads are easy enough. A set of 317, aka 6.0L, heads have 72cc chambers and would put you right about 9.6:1 which is a good value.

Will you be doing this on the stock bottom end!? Not a good idea if you say "yes". Bump the CR down into the "non-detonation" area with some different pistons at least, then I would say you could start thinking about boosting it without blowing it up.
