Default Where, and how did you put your iat sensor in?

People with custom turbo kits, where and what did you do with the iat sensor? did you drill a small hole in the pipe, get a new gromet, and shove it in, and hope it doesn't blow out?

I have been suggested by some to do it this way, but id like to know what you guys have done.

Thanks, Chris

As always a picture would be great.

i read a while back that you had to get a IAT sensor off of like a boosted car already that is "threaded" so that it dosnt get pushed out.

i dont know if i read that right but that's what i heard

That would be an option if there was a sensor that was plug and play... Which i dont know, so hopefully someone chimes in hear, and gives us some help, since its something both of us will have to do very soon....

if i had to guess, i would think that it would be best to have it as close to the TB as possible to give the computer the truest reading just as it's entering the engine. my only concern would be when you spray some alky, if it would damage the sensor or not.

oh woops forgot you were going to go with the MAF, i didnt really pay attention to MAF'd car's and their IAT sensor location, i think though it would make good sense to have it near those meter's to give you the truest reading

Yea gonna try the maf for a little while. My tuner prefers to keep the car maf if they can for driveability, Once i get the power up a little next yr, it will probably go speed density.

I just drilled a 5/8" hole and reused the stock grommet and IAC as it was used in the Ls1 lid...hasn't blown out yet.

GM # 25036751 is the PN I have on file for the thread IAT sensor.

I just did the new grommet and drill a hole technique, tons of miles and has never popped out once.

I ran my stock IAT through a die, so it is now threaded. I have a vortech elbow that I tapped to match (or it came tapped....its been a couple years) either way, its threaded, well sealed, and I never have to worry about it.

I've sprayed 3-4 gallons of roughly 50% alky past my sensor, and it hasn't seemed to affect its performance what-so-over. Maybe someone who's sprayed 10x that amount will chime in....or anyone who's ever killed one.

Just get a threaded sensor from advance auto or napa or anywhere like that. Search on here and you will find the part number and vehicle it comes on stock. Its cheap. I always tig a bung and use the thread sensor on any of my cars or customer's cars.

http://www.napaonline.com/MasterPage...erature+Sensor

I just looked up a 1991 GMC Syclone to find it. It should plug in the factory plug fine...mine all have. Also plugs into the BS3 harness.

It says 3/8 - 18 thread on there. I have always used NPT bungs and they worked fine.

Its hidden out of the way, under the charge pipe before the TB. I'd have to take the charge pipe off to get a good pic of it.

I'll try to get a good pic of it tomorrow when I have some daylight.

69vette, I posted the GM PN. If you need to take that # to NAPA, Checker, Pep boys and have em cross reference it and they'll fix you or whoever is looking for one up.

Best place to get the 3/8 18 fitting? i found 1 @ summit says its 3/8 but doesn't say its 18 threads per inch...

I was looking for a weld in nut, but there all 3/8 16. I also need a mild steel one to be able to weld it to my pipeing.

Thanks, Chris
