Default Probably one of the dumbest/newbie questions ever!

Okay,

So I got my car all back together. Before I took the transmission out I was seeing 4 PSI consistently. I did have to remove the manifold crossover pipe. In doing so, the wastegate had to come off (feeds back into the exhaust). When I removed the wastegate, I noticed that the adjuster screw was loose. So, I tightened that down before getting everything back together.

Well, now that the car is on the road, I am only seeing roughly 2 - 3 PSI. I feel really dumb because I don't know which way to turn the adjuster screw to increase boost. My logical mind tells me that you would shorten the threaded screw to increase boost (apply more pressure to spring) and you would back out the screw to decrease boost. Is that right?

I only have a boost gauge to reference boost. I believe the wastegate is referenced on the turbo, and my gauge is referenced to the intake manifold. The only other changes I made were wrapping the crossover pipe. Any ideas what might be causing my pressure drop? Thanks.

I'm pretty sure I got all the pipes clamped down good. I will go back and double check tonight.

Would an exhaust leak on my crossover pipe (hot side) cause that?

Hmmm....I had to cut the crossover tube to get the transmission out. I don't have a welder so I had to jerry rig it with some flex pipe and clamps. It leaks a bit. I guess I need to get up to a muffler shop and have them weld that up for me.

Is my assumption on adjusted the wastgate correct though? I've searched everywhere on the internet and can't seem to find a straight forward answer on how to adjust for boost.

there is a steel ring in all wastgates that I have ever seen and if it fell out you would not make much boost at all
