Default Turbo Sizing Question

Alright here's my setup to start with, i have a Forged 370 Short Block, Stock 317 heads, 220/216 116 LSA Cam and a ITS 72mm with a .96 A/R

I was on forced Inductions Website today reading compressor maps and it looks like i'm only gonna get 10psi out of this thing

Is that right???

So i started looking and searching and i am thinking that i'm gonna have to jump to an ST80 but with or without race cover and what do ya'll think???

Pick up the phone and call said turbo company, you're definitely mis-interpreting the compressor map.

What RPM do you plan to shift at?

I think an ST-80 would be overkill for your setup, A properly sized TC-76-78 would be better.
FI even has a sale on the 78mm TC units for 999.00 right now..

I Thought so at first but i want to set my Shift points above 6500 so that equates to 62lbs at 10psi and 70lbs at 12psi

so i looked at the T72 map and with a Pressure ratio of 1.68 the turbo is well beyond the right side of the graph and at 1.82P/R i'm still not at the required 70lbs

Well, 20 PSI with shift points in the 6500 range will require an 80+mm snail.

If I can fit a 98mm under the hood, you can fit an 88. Don't be afraid to do a "little" cutting.

Its not that it won;t make more boost....what happens when you dive off the compressor map is the outlet temps will soar and efficency drops like a rock. Also when it drops, that means turbine speed has to then be much higher per psi gained, which also means back pressure climbs FAST. Its all about a complete system on a turbo, which means both the intake and exhaust have to work together.

Yeah i know it

I am really trying to stay in effeciency range, i may have a deal to get an ITS 80mm for now as an almost trade for my 72mm so that should do a touch better till i get the fundage for a 85+
