Default Stupid Question: weight???

I have been lurking around and I am planning on trying my own turbo build and I see a lot people that are running almost the same front mounted turbo setup. It looks like the guys running a big single turbo have it sitting on the exhaust piping and I don't see braces.

My question is, how much do these turbos weigh? I would think they are heavy but I can't see how the pipes from the manifolds that collect into a single flange can hold all that weight.

For those of you that have your large, single mount turbo unbraced, could you tell me how much your turbo weighs? Or if it is braced, how you braced it?

Sorry for the stupid questions...

Quote from Drturbo: Also ST units are actually about 41lbs, the S series is around 50.

Most guys brace their turbos, I didn't but I am running cast manifolds on my set ups. Plus I run smaller turbos.

Definetly braced, you maynot see it, but it there. I agree, the S series turbo is a heavy bitch.

my 76 is not braced..

Josh @ kytp does not brace the tc 76 kits(he didn't used to atleast)

With the cast manifolds, i think you can be ok with a 16 gauge pipe holding turbo. If you make a ss manifold, id brace it to be safe. I put over 1500 miles on mine and no bracing, no problems.

I have a pte gt4276 i was told its around 40 pounds, but i never weighed it. it is a heavy bitch.

Good luck, Chris

i braced mine, i have a TC76 i think it weigh's like 12 pounds, not very heavy, but i braced it just because i didn't want to have to have any cracks forming on the pipes with it getting hot and cold and jouncing up and down with the road, overbuilt i guess lol

Im running the old qtp kit that does not have a brace and im having some minor cracking issues. Im switching to a tc78 that weighs about 22lbs. My pte67 feels heavier but ive put 4k on this kit on city pot holes and havent had many problems.
