Question Garrett TP38

I've got a lead on a Garrett TP38 that is local for $150. Its off a 99-03 7.3l Powerstroke with low miles. Its Specs Should be, .84A/R exhaust turbine housing And compressor side 1.0 A/R. What i would like to know is If that would work good on a Stock LS1 Long block. I'm planning on Starting fab on Front Mount turbo system late this fall and im trying to get a turbo before then. I only plan on 6 PSI on this motor.

Wheel sizes are much more important than AR's.

The compressor wheel should be 59mm for the inducer. The exducer is 82mm but that doesn't matter when you are looking at a compressor map.

Its essentially just a 60mm turbo. Its sucks for a LS1 motor....will spool fast, but fall off like a rock in the upper RPM's.

Yeah it will do 30 psi on the diesel, but all done at 4500 rpm. Not too hot for a LS1.

Bingo......never was meant to work well on a high flowing LS1 motor. A little worse then even a 60-1 which is pretty much crap at anything over 5000rpms. Minimum, I would suggest a high flowing 70mm with a proper sized exhaust turbine wheel, around ~80+mm or more. The turbine is the most overlooked part of the turbo world...

If there was everyone would be buying them...

I would say the tc76 from dr turbo is going to be your best bang for your buck with a warranty and will work great.
