False, there are many guys running 2 steps with autos.
Do a quick search and you will see others' results using them.

so with a 2 step just hold the gas and brake all the way down and it holds the revs at lets say 4k then just let off the brake?

Well, there is more to it than just that.

It cuts spark randomly and limits RPM's
Many 2 steps have an activation or trigger source, activation will depend on which schematic you follow.

You can wire the 2step to a brake switch or even a brake light wire for an activation source. You would want to install a toggle switch inline to prevent the 2step from activating every time the brakes are applied.

If you have the 2 step set at 4k RPM and a brake switch then yes even with the pedal to the floor your engine will only rev to 4k. Once the brake is released the normal spark within the ignition system will takeover and off you go!

The 2-step has one wire to a ground source with a momentary switch inline. Another wire to a 12 volt source at the brakes. You stand on the brake pedal hit the momentary switch and it will engage the 2-step. Floor the gas pedal and the rpms will stop where you have the 2-step set and every other cylinder will fire and then alternate to the other 4 cylinders. When you let off the brakes the 2-step will disengage and all cylinders will fire.

I have the Lingenfelter on my auto car. I wired it to the trans brake. I like it becuase I can get boost without hardly any stress on my converter/trans.

Is anybody able to actually use one without a t-brake? I'm considering trying it, but I think it will just push through the brakes as soon as it starts building boost.

Yeah you can. Like other people said, wire it to a trigger source(IE: brake light, momentary button, ect.).

I have one I use on the truck. It takes about 2 seconds to build 5 psi.

would the 2 step work at at low rpms building boost?

if not then i would have to stall it as well.

Nothing like a transbrake. You will still need a larger stall to see significant boost

It's an adjustable rev limiter. Unlike the factory rev limiter it cuts spark to alternating cylinders. This causes a rich condition in the cylinders that sends unburnt fuel into the headers/manifolds where it ignites & causes the turbo to spool.

quicksilverado,
do you have problems pushing through the brakes at the line when boost starts building? Seems like that would be a problem without a trans brake.
