Default GM6 Turbo from diesel....Cheap FI?

I noticed a turbo diesel in a 98 dually the other day in the junkyard. Just curious if this turbo would be cost effective FI. My second question would be what kind of boost can I expect from this turbo? Background info: LQ4/LQ9 dropped into a 73 camaro backed by a th350. Thanks.

lol that sig is hilarious I remember that episode!

I dont think that turbo would wrk IMO because it is designed for a 6l engine that only revs to 4k tops. I dont know for sure though sorry.

Thanks for the reply. With the engine revving only to 4k on the diesel it would not last to 6k on a 6L?

Boost will quickly spike and then drop FAST. To small a turbo...

My friend has a turbo off of a semi in his car. It ran 10.96 at 138 the first time out. It's a95 mustang with a 370, stock 317 heads, and a TH400 no brake with a 1900 stall.

That turbo is too small, but you can find turbos off of diesels that work.

The turbo will not make enough boost during the power band of an LQ4 or Lq9? What size are the turbos off of these trucks?

I would think that the turbo off that diesel would be fine.Usually diesel turbos are quite big, usually the only downfall on them are the bigger exhaust side housing. tend to be a little laggy. If in doubt, just get a holeset.....or two lol

Boost doesn't matter it's just a number of the amount of resistance that is in the intake. He is saying that the turbo will not put out enough air for the motor.

We don't really know too much about it. He got it for free from a friend that was scrapping a semi. All we know is it's an Air research unit with a T6 flange.
