Default Stock Fuel Pump Noise?

I recently bought a 98 SS and notice that the fuel pump makes a noticeable hum at all times. Does anyone think thats its cause for concern? Do they make that noise when they are on the way out?

I cant say for certain that its a stock pump...but I am pretty sure judging by the "stockness" of the rest of the car... Car runs fine and pulls hard... just dont want to end up stranded...

The only way to find out is look at the pump. The best way to find out if it's a stocker or not, pull back your carpet in the back, right behind the rear seats, see if someone made an access panel to the tank. If not, make your own, just cut it out, find a slightly bigger plate and bolt it back down w/ silicone... That'll make life easier when you decide to mod.

So do you guys think the noise is cause for concern and I should check it out? Like I say it runs awsome with no hickups...I know I've heard lots of noisy pump cars before and wasnt sure if I should be worried or not. 98s being a metal tank have anything to do with the noise maybe?..

Your pump is probably on it's way out. My brothers 97' GTP was doing the same noise. Sometimes it would have trouble starting. I swapped in a new pump last week, no noises or trouble starting up

My 2001 ZR2 Blazer made a humming noise all the time,,,from what i was told (zr2usa.com) its when they dont make noise that you need to start to worry. Now, when the pump DID fail, it did just that, it stopped the noise, or would do it intermittently,,, then we took it in and lo-and-behold, it was out. replaced it, noise was there all the time. One day it stopped again (like 2 months after replacment) took it in again, and it was shot again. Not sure if its the same with our cars or not, as i have not ever noticed a noise with my TA like i did with my blazer.

True but only if the noise is before start up. If it's humming all the time then that is not normal.

Dont want to replace parts that are fine.... but I dont want to end up stranded if I could have prevented it.

If it WAS replaced...they dropped the tank. There is no hole cut...

Will I need any additional regulator etc? Should the pump change necessitate a change in my tune? (Possibly higher rail psi?)
