Default fuel gage issues

Whenever i start up the car, my fuel gage is always incorrect and shows that it is empty. After driving for a while, it will slowly move to the correct level. I searched and read that if it is a fuel sending unit, then the fuel gage normally shows that is full. If my fuel pump bad, or is there another sensor?

How about some basics. What is your car, year, ect.? There is only the fuel level sending unit.
