Default Trap Door Question

Hello,

I will be doing a fuel pump swap soon and do a trap door to get in there.

How much room is there between the body that is to be cut and the wiring/lines on top of the tank?

Is there enough clearance to do the cut with an air nibbler?

Can the tank be dropped a little by loosening the straps?

Thanks in advance

I didn't drop the tank at all when I did mine, and i cut it with a cut off wheel, there should be enough room for the nibbler to cut it out just be sure to do the bottom (closest to the hatch) and the sides first so you can see the lines when you get close to them they will be on the top left.

DONT DROP THE TANK! you need a dremel with a HD cutting wheel, depending on the year of your car just cut a square hole above the pump. Plenty of room just go slow

Not sure there is enough room but there really is not reason to do that. Just use a cut off wheel on a die grinder, go slow. it cuts easy and smooth and it wont distort the plate so you can easily reuse it. I just welded a few tabs on mine and sealed it with silicone.

It must take days and a ton of wheels with a dremel.

Die Grinder will make quick work of it and easily be able to reuse what you cut off.

that pressue valave is like the one that keeps air in your tire.. So, with the car running/primed you pushed it in and no fuel came out?

i can understand wanting to do this. but on a serious note...you can have your tank out and on the ground with some jackstands and a basic hand tool set. if you have a 98 tank you may wanna clean it, otherwise dont worry about it and just do as neat of a job as possible when making the door. i personally just couldnt live with cutting up my baby.

I can definitely understand why to do this. Due to the ground effects and lowered stance of my T/A, it's a major PITA to even jack the car up, let alone get it high enough to drop tank - and then I would still have to actually drop the tank.

I can open the rear hatch, pull back the carpet & remove the access cover to FP in under 8min without the car ever leaving the ground and me in a standing position
