Default metal to plastic tank swap Q's

I have a 98 V6 with a metal gas tank and I'd like to put in a newer plastic tank. The dealer says its a completely different design and won't fit. Who has swapped to a newer plastic tank, and what modifications need to be made, if any? I thought it would just go right in but I'm being told no. Any help??

I don't want to give advice on something I know nothing about, but I'm sure the plastic tank can be retrofitted.

The shape of the hole it fits into is certainly the same.

Hopefully someone that has done this can confirm for you.

The tank will fit, but there are some wiring differences as well as minor mods to the evap system. I would get the filler hose & fuel lines with the plastic tank as well.
