Default Running 100 Octane?

I've usually have run 100 octane through my cars, but I've only had my Camaro for a few weeks so I'm not sure if it is recommended or not.

The motor is cammed and was tuned on 91 octane pump gas. I'm considering running 100 octane this weekend when I take it to the track. Will the 100 octane have adverse effects since the motor is tuned on 91?

TIA.

If the car is tuned for 91 & has near stock compression, the 100 is a waste of money. It may also make less power on 100 than the fuel it was tuned for.

That is what I was sort of thinking...thanks Lonnie. It's too bad, because I really enjoy the smell of 100...haha.

I put a gallon of 110 in my tank with about 5 gallons 91 and the car slowed down over a tenth in the 1/8th that pass

Say Lonnie, a bit off topic but while I have Ahold an expert,

What about Adding Toluene to my gas,

I was reading about the turbo porsche team adding Toluene to their gas in order to Boost Octane Levels

Problem is Lonnie my Z06 would run better on hot days if I could get 93octane
here in So. Cal
My car was designed to run on 93 and I would like to make my own fuel
and save some money for more Mods
So without fear of ridicule
what do you think? feel free to post links or the like Thanks !

Tolulene is essentially 116 octane & offers a similar air-fuel ratio as gasoline, so it is an effective octane booster when you consider the cost & availability.

It typically works well in mixtures up to around 25% & you can buy it an most good paint stores.

So...what I'm gathering from this thread is that if you put high octane gas in your car it will be slower? I thought higher octane was supposed to boost performance/increase efficiency. How come a lot of people at the track use race gas in their daily driven cars? I put like 7 gallons of 107 octane gas in my Z28 once and it made a huge difference, definitely pulled harder. I lit up the back tires going like 20 mph when I floored it in first on dry pavement and normally I can't do that. The engine also seemed to run smoother.

The octane rating of gasoline is a measure of how much you can compress the gasoline before it ignites, not how “good” it is.

Its possible your "Custom Tune" was tuned beyond what it should and the higher octane rating is helping some. This is never the case with stock compression bolt on cars.

Thank you Lonnie,

Just thought I would consult an Expert before I ran it in my Z'car

And she is running well
