Fuel pump clogged - Did someone put something in my gas tank? Last week I started noticing my car (2001 Trans Am with 35k miles) had no power and a whine coming from the fuel pump. I got the fuel pump and fuel filter replaced and the mechanic said it looked like someone dumped something in my tank. My question is, is there anyway this buildup could have gotten on my fuel pump without someone deliberately putting **** in my gas tank? Also, if someone did put something in my tank, how long would it take before it started causing me problems? I usually go through a full tank and don't refill it again until I'm near empty.
Kind of looks like it could be paint to me. When I flake some off and rub it between my fingers it's almost like a powder. Here's a couple pics:

yeah, it looks like someone dumped some crap in your tank...that stuff looks weird.
Your best bet would to be to drop the tank, flush it and put it back in...then invest in a locking gas cap. change your fuel filter too.
