Default need some help on external fuel pump placement

i have a 72 firebird 6.0 swapped. I sumped the tank recently and installed two external walbro 255s. Both pumps were noisy one locked up and the other just died with very little run time on them. I have them mounted one on top of the other right in front of the tank. I figured the placement was fine but maybe i was wrong, i had a summit pump before i did the sump in the tank and had it was mounted up above the tank and never had any problem with it. I have orderd new pumps but dont want to make same mistake and burn them up.

tank was cleaned before install. i have checked all my connections, and im using 10 gauge wire on pumps. I know they are wired up right. Maybe i got screwed on the pumps, i bought them from someone on here and they appeared to be new.
