Default fuel pump life?

My procharged 2002 TA was running a little rough. I had it Dyno tuned today. I found out the fuel pressure was dropping straight down after 5000 rpm.The Racetronix performance pump is only a year old with 8000 miles on it.
(The procharger is a D1SC / 60lb injectors)

What is the expected life of these pumps?
Is there another brand more reliable?
Do they make warning gauges to prevent the motor from running lean?
Is installing a fuel pressure gauge my only choice?
Any help would be apprieciated.
Thanx.

Well, my brand new Racetronix pump has been primed maybe 10 times total (car never started), and the pump failed. So mine lasted about 30 seconds. These pumps seem to be pretty hit or miss...others have run theirs for hundreds of thousands of miles, and they are still working just fine.

What HP level were you expecting out of your setup? Seems like people will only recommend a single 255 like the Racetronix Walbro up to 550 RWHP...beyond that, you'd best look at a double pumper or a bigger single pump.

Regardless, it sounds like you are out of pump with that setup. I'd give Lonnie's Performance a call and see what your options are.

Im only 500 RWHP.
Its beginning to sound like I need to invest in a fuel pressure gauge to avoid the chance of running lean.

Replaced fuel pump, problem solved.

My next upgrade will be wideband. I am very happy it didnt cause any serious damage. One would think a fuel pump would last longer.

One thing to keep in mind... if the fuel sock on the venturi pickup is restricted/dirty or the venturi itself is not functioning properly, the pump will suck the bucket dry. This will cause a pressure drop & also can damage the pump.

Rememer the typical 4th Gen is 10yrs+ old. You must check the other parts to be sure everything is in good working order, otherwise you may have problems.

Another thing I run into daily in my area with daily drivers; fuel quality.
Some fuels are more harsh on the pumps & their longevity suffers.
