today i replaced my oem fuel pump and sending unit with a new racetronix and gmsending unit........when i went to put it back in the tank, right when i had about 1/4-3/8 of an inch left from getting it fully in, i had to kinda shove it in harder than i would like, and it felt like i was smashing something on the fuel bucket....is that normal? should i pull it ou and try again?

That is normal. The bucket is spring loaded you were compressing the bucket springs to seat the pump.

It's the length of the hose that goes from the Racetronix pump to the top hat of the bucket. I just had to do the same thing.
