Default ls1 fuel rail weld on bung?

I am tired of worrying about the reliability of my russell -6 AN to the ls1 fuel rail fitting that is known to fail. I would like to weld/braze a bung to the rail. Is it possible to do this to the factory rail? I know its thin material but i think i could tig it. Just wanted to check to see if this is a common mod.

This is not done ever cause rail are cheap up grades, but it can be done by a very good tig welder. key word is very good as not to get a brittle weld that breaks with 60 psi of gas flowing though it while the engine is shaking all over the place

Well it's certainly not "not done ever". In fact, I somewhat followed Racetronix's idea here, https://ls1tech.com/forums/10171951-post19.html, but using only -6AN

Russell offers an improved version of the quick connect fitting.

Photo #1 old style push on.

Photos 2,3,4 new style with threaded locking ring.

BigRich954RR, that is exactly what i am worried about, I am very competent with tiging stuff that dosent matter, exhaust etc... I like the silver solder idea but dont know how much i trust that also.

Well, it's definitely do-able. I bought two of Aeroquip's FBM2872 last July from Summit (don't pay more than $2.48 each!) and had them attached to my fuel rail by some highly recommended guy who tig welds for a living (or something), but a little differently than being discussed in this thread (on the rear of each rail). Before installing it, I'm going to pressure test it. That should be within the next few years lol

I have brazed a AN Bung on my fuel rail. Have had no issue and easy to do.. It is more secure than using the QD's.

Tip: don't brother with the high cost name brand fitting. If you have a Tubing/Hyd shop.. they sell the fitting and bung in bulk. I picked up 3 3/8" pipe to AN -6 adapter for less than $5.00, These are cheaper than a regular Weld on Bung. Cut the Pipe end off, drill the adapter about 1/4" deep for the Tubing to fit in and then just braze/Tig/weld it on..
