Default Intermittent Fuel Gauge

Hey guys. I've done a search and advanced search and can find plenty of threads related to fuel. Some that discuss the "check gages" light and some that refer to fuel sending unit but none that match my problem so here goes.

I have a 2002 Z/28 all original ls1 and tranny. I've done nothing aftermarket to the fuel system and have a wierd problem. If i park the car and let it idle for a little while, or even occasionally at a long stoplight, my fuel gauge shoots to empty. I always know i have fuel and am not worried but it's still frustrating because as soon as i leave the stoplight, or parking spot, i.e. any movement, the gage goes back to the right reading.

So A. why is this happening and B. how can i fix it?

Thanks,
Grady
