Before you replace the pump, make sure the relay is good, then check to make sure the wires to the pump are good too. There is a 4-pin plug just in front of the rear axle shaft on the drivers side. The black wire is the ground and the grey wire is the 12 volt from the relay. Make sure it is grounding good there, and that the grey wire gets power for around two seconds then shuts off when the key is in the ignition on position. If those are both good, the wires are fine back that far.

From that plug, the four wires go up and over the tank to the sending unit. This is where cutting the trap door is a godsend. (This is where my problem was too...) On the 98's the 4 wires for the pump and sending unit go into a yellow box on top of the unit. Since we have the metal tanks, you can just ground your test light to a nut on the unit. Test the grey wire where it goes into the yellow box to see if it is sending power for the two senonds to prime the pump when you turn the ignition on. Once the car is running, It'll be hot constant in order to power the pump. My grey wire wasn't making good contact inside the yellow box, so as soon as I pushed in on the wire with my test light, the pump started working again. If you don't have the trap door cut, you'll have to drop the tank to both check the wires or change the pump. I'd save yourself a lot of headaches and cut the hole. Hopefully you're lucky like I was and it's just something simple like the wire. The 99-up cars were lucky because they got a two piece plug there, instead of that solid yellow box we got stuck w/.

Hope that helps. Good luck.

Not a problem. It was a long post....so hopefully I didn't make it too complicated to follow.
