I have the chance to buy a Edelbrock pro flo 2 efi conversion kit for chevy BBC 396-502 for half of original cost. It is brand new ,would it be a good choice for this application. It says its application is for oval port heads.

I think you will benefit for it. I would go get it. Your heads should be oval port peanut heads. Throw on a good set of aluminum heads will also wake it up. Heads on those trucks didn't do much for horsepower. If want to go carb route with heads will work as well. But I would go and use that efi set up.
