Default ATTN: All owners of Nasty Performance fuel tanks (pics added)

I am currently installing a Nasty fuel tank and weldon pump on the side. I am running into a problem where the inlet filter is running into my t-top/trunk area. Only one clamp is around the fuel pump at this point and the other is around the initial filter. I believe the fuel pump support brackets have been welded on in the wrong place and are too far back towards the rear of the car. Has anyone had this problem?
Thanks, -Andrew

Use a hammer and make a little room, just enough for everything to fit right. I don't even think you would noticed looking into the trunk.

How much did that tank cost anyways?

Can you loosen the straps and slide the tank forward with a pry bar? Might help. If not, a hammer is in your future.

I bought the whole kit from Nate at Nasty I believe the tank was 600 alone. I was going to hammer in the t-top area but I was reluctant to and just wanted to see if anyone else ran into this problem. Also, the tank is a TIGHT fit and there is no room to move it forward.

If you have to hammer, be safe and use goggles, etc. I would try using a steel chisel and steel punch to make the indentation a little cleaner. Good luck.

You could also move the filter down stream somewhere if you really don't want to hammer the car.

Or cut a piece of 1/8 inch aluminum 1" by 2.5" and mount it to the welded bung on the tank. Then relocate the clamp closer to the first clamp by mounting it to the al strip.

Or take both clamps off and mount an aluminum plate with screws to the 4 welded bungs. Then mark and drill the plate to mount the clamps to fit....moving the whole assembly away from the trunk.

Kinda a pain when you drop 600$ on a "Custom Fit" tank and setup.... You would think it would fit.

Could it just be that your stuff sticks out more than the stuff he might have used when making the tanks?

I've run two different setups on my Speed Inc. gas tank, I assumed in the beginning that my fuel system would fit but if it was tight they'd have to make it fit.

No because the filters and the pump came as a kit from nasty. I got the whole setup from him so he knows how it should fit. I ordered it this way so that I wouldn't have to worry about things like this.

just curious, did you run the 40 micron filter or the 10 micron one before the pump? i have the same setup that you have 600a with all weldon stuff and was just curious which one you ran first.

If you use the hammer just do enough to clear the fitting(stuff dents pretty easy). I think you'll never even see it with the trunk carpet covering it up.

I would think someone building a 1000+hp fuel system would be willing and prepared to do stuff like this.

I'm almost positive the 40 goes before the pump. It is in the manual for the fuel pump. That should have been included in your box with the pump.

I really don't mind denting up the car to much, I just would rather not if there is some relatively simple way to get around that, you know.

call or pm nate and see what he says. Maybe you have the filter mixed up or something?

I called him and e-mailed him a link to this thread. He says he hasn't had anyone have a problem like this so I'll see what he says on monday. He said that he would relocate them for me but the shipping would be around $25.00 each way.

save the 50 and use the hammer. It only looks like you need 1/2-1" to clear the fitting. Maybe th epic doesn't really show it good.
