strong gas smell help!
got a 95 formula with an ls1 in it. has an adjustable fuel pressure regulator an in tank fuel pump. i started having really strong constant smell of gas while car is running and after it runs. i did not see any leaks in the engine bay. could the line going to the gas tank have a rip in it? its a rubber line. i have not looked under the car yet. smell seems to be coming from the front of the car. very very strong almost knocking me out strong smell. please help!

I’ve had this problem with cars before, 9 out of 10 times its some sort of seal or small return hose, this also isn't good because gas evaporates. The tank is supposed to be air tight so basically you’re wasting gas! I would drop the tank on these cars… but im not an expert on f-bodies like some people on this site.

go to autozone and purchase some seafoam. I had a gas smell in my car and got some seafoam and not there anymore. but this could be a POSSIBLE solution. or could be bad fuel filter, small hole in fuel line. but try the seafoam first. good luck hope this helps

You might try looking at all the O-Rings around the injectors where they meet the fuel rail (assuming you removed the rails when put your pressure reg on). Mine started leaking from a small crack. I couldn't see it but it was driving me nutts.
Good luck,

My buddys z had a real strong smell only when he turned it on for about the first 15 min coming out of his exhaust. he sent his computer out to sts when he put his turbo on and that fixed him right up.

when you put in the pump, did the return lines look old and frail? I just did a pump on my friends 2000 z28 and we put it back up, turns out there was a small crack on one of the hardlines coming off the top of the tank, this could be a problem or sometimes when you put the o-ring back on, you pinch it or it pops outand since you only smell gas when its a full tank, i would lean more towards the o-ring. either way drop the tank and you will find your problem
