Default fuel pump differences for 98

I know the 98's have a steel gas tank instead of the 99+ plastic tank, but what about the fuel pump assembly. My sending unit has gone out, so I thought I'd upgrade the pump while I was in there. I like the sound of the full throttle direct fit 99+ ls1 fuel pump upgrade as it keeps the jet pump intact, but didn't know why they specified it as 99+ instead of 98+. Would this setup work on the 98s, and if not, what would be the best route to upgrade? Thanks.

all I know for sure is the 99+ models have a bucket system and uses a venturi port off the pump to keep the bucket full of gas, the 98's do not have a bucket system.

Racetronix has a complete upgrade for the 98 tank setup. http://www.racetronix.com/RX-F98-FPKG-2.html

F99-FPA will not work on 1998 cars.
You require our F98-FPA which is unique to that model year.

What is the BIG secret here boys?

The function of the F99+ pump assembly is covered in our ad here:

The F98 does not have the same features as the F99.
There are other unique features specific to the F98 module.

Your pump kit looks awesome. But isn't the 98 pump just a basic style intank pump? I know if I had a 99+ I would buy yours no prob... I know whats involved in putting a regular walbro into one of those... Not fun. But isn't a 98 the same as an LT1 cars??

98's the baffle is made into the tank, so the sender/bracket is very simple. hose clamp a walbro where the stock one used to be and move on.

fp regulators should be the same for all years, but you could have a bad one, they should all run around 4 bar

The 98 is unique. Our custom jig aligns the pump in the factory location. It allows the factory sock to be adapted to the pump. We include the proper size & type flex tube vs. rubber line. We include new in-tank wiring (no adapters) as some are rotted due to the age of the cars. The F98-FPA is available from Racetronix dealers for $159.99. We recommend the complete package with harness because without it the pump takes a considerable performance loss.

I upgraded my fuel system with a Racetronix 99+up kit when I did my pcm upgrade. I got a plastic tank and incorporated the Rx kit into it. I did install a 00 Instrument cluster too for proper dash indication. With an autometer fuel pressure sending unit off the rail I am logging FP into EFI Live. I am seeing 62psi at idle and ~56-58psi @ WOT. When I first setup the FPSU it revealed a failing alternator as I was losing FP @ WOT bad (50-52psi) (Coincidentally I noticed the Batt Volts going down to ~10vdc) Almost a 10% drop.

FWIW, I still have my complete 98 tank, pump that is looking for a good home. All reasonable offers accepted.

great info guys. Should the factory sock be replaced during the upgrade, or is it commonly reused. This is a daily driver, so I want to have all the needed parts in-hand when I go to do the install to avoid down time.
