How long does one take to shut off from heat due to cruising on highway? Is the pump controller needed for regular 120 mile commutes?

depends on how large the tank is. If its wired up correctly and the plumbing is done right a controller is definitely not needed. I made several 500+ mile trips in my car with an A1000 setup with a sumped stock 98 tank. The pump needs to be behind and below the sump as best as clearance will allow it. I had mine behind the tank even with the t-top holder area on the driver side framerail hanging slightly from a bracket. Never one issue like that either.
