Eating fuel pumps
I'm having issues with fuel pumps burning out in my car.
The car- '84 Trans Am
engine/ drivetrain- 2002 LS1 from a Trans Am.
The fuel pump that came with the car was replaced after a time of driving this as the wires around the connector were showing signs of burning out (supposedly a sign of extra resistance and meaning the fuel pump was on its last legs)
replaced with a new GM fuel pump
now, 2 months later my second fuel pump is burned out. left me stranded this morning, too.
So, I need to figure out why this is doing this.
Any suggestions?
I'm wondering if my car is supplying either too much power to the pump, or not enough.
The fuel pump is controlled by the computer, yes? I'm using as much of the factory harness as possible including connectors, etc.
The wiring harness for the car is by speartech and it included wire to power the fuel pump, so I don't think I'm using the wrong gauge wire to connect to the fuel pump.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks!
