how low can 42lb's go?

how low can 42lb's go? the never ending story..
i used the calculator and got 3.2lb's, patriot said 32lb,
i was goin to go 36 to be save, but most tel me to go 42.
can the 42lb's flow little enough.. with out any drawback.. or ar ethey to big?
