Default Fuel pump door questions

Well, I have determined that I need to pull and possibly replace my 255lph fuel pump. For multiple reasons, including the location of my butt turbo and the fact that I am not totally convinced the pump is the problem, I have decided to go the fuel door route. I have located and bookmarked the threads that discuss making the door and removing/replacing the pump, so I understand what it entails.
My questions are these:
The tank is located behind the rear seat back, in front of the rear hatch well, correct?
What dimensions do I make the door so I only make one cut?
Exactly where is the centerpoint of the door located (inches from the left or right, inches from the back)?
Thanks in advance.

Dont forget to lower your tank alittle just in case you slip.

There is a little over a 1" clearance.
Fill it up, you reduce the chances of it lighting up in your face.

I just measured my grinding wheels, they are 3/4" in diameter, which means I would only be 3/8" max, when they are new. That should not be a problem, should it?
I was a machine operator in an earlier life, so I am familiar with grinders (even though those were air grinders, not my dinky (but powerful) little electric Dremel grinder.

The last person that told me that was trying to convince me to jump off a cliff. And he was right, once I took that one step gravity took over.
I'm on it, I already have everything prepped, I'm going to start on it (and finish it, hopefully) tomorrow morning. Gonna watch some fireworks tonight.
And thanks for the assist, that little "L" is a superb idea.

Just did mine tonday. I started from the back seat area and after I opened the door I realized it was the wrong spot/end. I interpreted the pictures I saw incorrectly. Oh well.

Yeah, that's why I asked. The pictures I saw were informative, but not conclusive. But on the bright side, you can now get to the freaking pump without having to drop the entire rear suspension and differential. Just another example of GM showing its engineering brilliance.

just rememeber that an LT1 and an LS1 have different tanks meaning the pump is located in a different location. These pictures are for an LT1 which is located more in the center... if you want to cut a door for an LS1, you will cut further back because the pump is in a different spot on the tank.

Hmm. Welding on top of your gas tank. Hmmm. I think I am going to use the_merv's method and just SCREW IT.

I used this tool to cut out the metal for my trap door when installing the Racetronix kit. It cuts the metal in a perfect straight line and doesn't walk on the metal like the air nibblers do.

I got mine from Harbor Freight for about $18 but they don't sell it anymore, but looks identical to the two pictured here (JC Whitney).

I don't know how you all cut in the wrong spot..when I first saw those photos they were pretty straight forward. That and I knew where the Gas Tanks was.

Hmmm. That would be nice, but I couldn't find it. If someone could point me there, it would be appreciated. I spoke to the salesman, and we discussed running the lines to the front of the car, but I was not completely satisfied with his solution. But I do tend to be very particular about my baby, she's been with me 10 years and counting, longer than any of my wives.

Never mind. I went to Racetronix's site and they had an excellent shot of how the relay hooks up. Running the wire forward is my only concern, but once I get under there (I will have to move it out of the garage to do it) I should be able to figure it out. I already completely disassembled the pump, so all I have to do is go backwards. Something I seem to be quite good at, unfortunately.
I are an injuneer!
Hey merv, what type of metal did you use, and where did you get it? I want to go ahead and build my door whilst I am waiting for the pump to arrive.
