373s auto and stalled
so i have a 2000 z28 auto with a 3100 stall and ive decided 2 get me some gears. so whats the best brand 4 my car and are they really in the 150-230$ range seems like some good prices at richmond. so guys biggest concern is how much are they 2 install. i asked a local shop they said 450$ i was shocked at that price i was thinking 200$ any body have any past installations with prices they can share thanks.

i believe i paid $175 for my AAM 3.73's from DTS. they are completely silent and have held up to over 150 passes. AAM is the same company that makes GM gearsets. i paid $150 for the install. make sure to get a full bearing kit while your in there

Quality! You pay for what you get!
Look into the Strange Torque Line or Motive Performance gears. These gears set up nice and are quiet. AAM does make the GM gears and are good, but alot of installers don't like them because they don't have the set-up #'s on the ring and pinion. A good shop knows the process or has the pinion depth tools for a perfect set-up, the only way I like to do it for my customers. Good Luck.

also, the difference between 2 and 3 series carrier. before you order a new ring & pinion, you need to know you factory ratio.
if 3.08, or 2.73, then you need the 2 series set
if 3.23, or 3.42, then you need the 3 series carrier kit. (IMO, going from 3.42-3.73 will not see a big difference)

I paid $400 about 3-4 years back for labor on
basically a full rear rebuild and swap of gears
and T2-R. Probably overpaid some but it was
done right in a shop that I knew was going
to stand behind the work.
Still dead quiet this much later. OEM 3.42s,
used but clean.

I don't know man, that seems like an awful lot of money to spend on an install. I am adding a stall next month and a set of 3.73s probably in a few months, and Texas Speed quoted me 350$ for the install of stall and transmission cooler + fluids. And the install of the gears + fluids I want to say was like 250$. That seems pretty reasonable to me considering the amount of work and degree of difficulty. I would get the motive gears, but that's just me. Good luck, let us know what you end up doing, and how it works for you.
