Default Is My Rear Going Bad

whenever i accelerate to about 3k and let off the car acts like normal and about a split second later it jerks forward.
Could this be the beginning of my rearend going out?
my car has a stock 99 trans am 10 bolt with 118k on it and 3.23 gears.

Stock 10 bolt is always beginning to break. I would seriously start by draining the old fluid and taking a look at it and also look at the gears while the cover is off to make sure you do not have a broken tooth.

Don't forget to use anti slip additive when you go to put new fluid in it.

Sounds more like a transmission issue to me.

Once you let off the gas and begin decelerating, the pinion gear rides on the "coast" side of the ring gear, and it should be consistant in smoothness until you stop or begin accelerating again. It shouldn't "jerk forward" at all after initially decelerating, if there was something that seriously wrong with the differential that it was locking up or binding, it probably would have let go by now.

I was thinking the same thing about a possible trans issue, however, not knowing exactly what the car is doing because I haven't driven it wanted to help eliminate his rear concern first and then go from there.
