Default 500RWHP and stock rear...

Yeah, I know after I get my Magnacharger in pretty soon the rear is going to be an issue, but what's worse?

I've gotten rid of all wheel hop BTW

The launches are definitely harder on the rear. It also depends on a stick car or automatic.

This is true, but factoring in 500 RWHP it wont really matter either way. Stickies are going to be required with that power. Sell the ten bolt while it is still good and get a 9".

High Stalled Auto would make it a while.....over an M6 anyway....seen a lot of front wheels come off the ground with the stock rear. Check this thread out.

I'm about to order from LM Speed with some other upgrades from Thunder pretty soon. Looking to have the build complete in March with track time in the Spring.

Some other info, the car is an M6, tires are 275/35 18 BFG Drags

Yeah, I've seen that thread before. Seems like just as many people make them last as break 'em. I guess I'll just stick with it, a DSL, and see what happens.

I've never been able to beat on the car really hard like I'm sure alot of others do. I'm really not that hardcore.

A good hard shift will definitely do it. I put a Spec 3+ in my car and the rear lasted about two weeks. After beating on it for about two weeks i was gettting on the highway and floored it in first, speed shifted at redline, and BOOM!! Sheered off a few ring gear bolts and they caused some pretty good carnage.

Hard shift are nothing compare to hard launches. I'm at 535rwhp/565rwtq on juice and the used 10bolts holds on the street with good sticky street tires and hard shifts(no hard launches in 1st and no sick clutch dumb). Its holding since 7months now...record for me...

I can assure you that if you put slick and go at the track, its 2-4 runs max with big launches. Ask me how I know..

I suggest no track until the 9''

at least try to harden the 10 bolt. I've added a ASP stud kit to the caps and a TA cover. welded the tubes to the housing (a complete bead around the tube) Cheap *** GM ony put two spot welds in on each side! Change the axles i.e Moser, Strange, etc. Change out the GM gears to something like Moser, US Gear, Richmond, etc. And get rid of that stock piece of crap torque arm, but the day I start putting out 500+ hp at the rear and I start racing it all of the time then I'll probably change to a 12 bolt. Didn't cost that much to do that either.

oops! I meant ARP stud kit not ASP (collaspible baton) although I beat the 10 bolt to death with it one day!

Would it extend the life of the rear if you lowered the weight of the car to say 2900lbs?

Hard launch will kill that rear end. AS soon as the lash is picked up in the rear all the torque is appiled and little bit of slack is what does it in my opinion. gear goes boom. My gears actully stayed in the case. My friends gears were all over the road. Now hard shifting I assume that you have a six speed. Hard shifting will more than likely bend the shift forks 2nd and 3rd. Been there and done that.

I have been at over 500 rwhp for over 3 years with the stock differential. But I don't take it to the dragstrip. Hard launches and sticky tires equals a recipe of "it's only a matter ot time before Boom."

The launch is the hardest on the Car. You are sending all that weight on the Rear at once.

I blew my 10-Bolt on my first wheelie, that was when my car was an Auto at the time. With a T56 in it I would have killed that 10-Bolt a while ago..
