What sensor is on top pf the rear end?

What sensor is on top pf the rear end? Was working on pulling the old 10 bolt and found something that plugs/pops/ pushes into a hole in the top of the rear end, has a smalll 10 mm bolt to hold it in place and has a wire running to the harness that comes through the floorboard. What the hell does this do? I did a quick search before posting this thread with no luck.
