good but cheap rear end
all i here about are 12 bolt and ford 9inch and how good and strong they are. i know that a 12 bolt or a 9 inch would be a good rearend. the problem i have is that i dont have $2,000 to invest in one. so what i am asking is if there is another good rear end that will hold up better than my stock 10 bolt that is cheaper than 2 grand.

The time and money it takes to do the modifications on a rear to actually make it work and fit in our cars is not an easy task or a cheap one. The main problem comes from the torque arm mount, and of course the spring perch brackets, alignment has to be right or the pinion angle will be wrong, Oh and did I mention the brakes,,,,,, Sorry to be sarcastic its just the cruel way of the hot rodding world. The pain in the *** and money involved with trying to do these things on another rear end, say a Gm 8.5 are not worth it. If you dont have the 2k (and by the way if you found a complete one for that price please share with who) the best advice is to buy the housing, then axles then center section for a 9inch, I know its expensive but you wont have to worry about it anymore. You could do what I am doing and keep your fingers crossed that your stocker will hold, I aint grenaded mine yet but right now my car is down and about to get another 275 HP with the H/C combo and spray, Honestly the future does not look good for my stocker either. Ill buy one when I HAVE to. Hope this helps
The oldest saying about hot rodding goes like this
Speed costs money
How fast can you afford to go?

This article shows it done cheaper than 9in or 12 bolt. Pretty interesting, and sounds good.

Not that I'm a fan of forking out all that cash for a 9" or a 12 bolt, I'd rather do it right the first time. If you don't plan on building a drag car, and only go with minor bolt-ons, this is looking like a viable option.

Part II of the article
From the article: "For drag racing applications pushing up to 425 rwhp with an automatic transmission, the 10-bolt might perform great, whereas an identically equipped six-speed might not fare as well."
20-25% stronger than stock...425 rwhp...what is that, 100ish hp above stock? That's not too much room to grow. As per their warnings, don't get stickier tires and don't leave at higher rpms. Sooo....it will last as long as you baby it? Hell, you can do that with the stocker saving you time, effort, and money. Let's all get F bodies and drive them around like my grandma.
Sounds to me like they did a lot of work, spent a good amount of money, and wound up with a only slightly improved boat anchor. They did use such words as "might work for you" and "might not survive" to try and save some face of their advertisers.
Not flaming anyone here, just shining some light on the absurd aspects.

ya I blew my torsen up and now I picked up an eaton for $350. Hopefully I can stay away from the track long enough to save up 3 grand for a fab 9. ANd sticky tires arent the only issue I had bald *** tires but two 250lb passengers and blew the diff on the 1-2 shift

how much power you had? Ill be pushing about 460 rwhp when i get my fbod (10 bolt, will upgrade) and plan on getting probably the torsen T2R as im into the whole racecar handling feel not drag racing, but i do plan on driving the car hard on the streets and having fun with occasional burnouts/donuts, etc.

I know a guy who builds his own for cheap, but he keeps blowing them up. He's broken 3 12 bolts and a 9 inch. I think its better to spend the extra money and get one from a reputable shop.
