Default limited Slip Additive

Ok so i got my new gears in a few weeks ago.. The guy who put them in said i didnt need the limited slip additive said i had a posi rear end... Its the stock rear end that came on the car... So is he right or wrong.. its a 2001 Z28 i went from 2:73 to 3:73... Gear Whine Sux but he said they were hardened gears said he had a nice pattern and that was as good as it was going to get.. So do i need to add the slip or not i did have him put half a bottle of Lucas in when he put in the fluid...

My understanding is that theres two types of rears, one needs the additive, one doesent. In the gm manual it says to add it regardless, it will keep it quite anyway.

You probably have the Torsen Rear-end, they don't need the additive.

Does the Torsen rear need friction modifier?
When replacing the fluid it is at the owner's discretion whether or not to add the modifier
How did you make 3.73's work on a 2.73 carrier?

Thick Ring Gear, we sell them.

Also as far as additive to OP, I would not assume you have the Torsen, verify with the dealer or the installer that just rebuilt your differential.

I knew it was a spacer or thick ring gear. Just curious which one. I know which is better, just wondering what he had.

As for checking for a Torsen or Auburn (since he did say STOCK)
Just jack the rear up a few inches. With it in gear or in park, turn a tire.
If it's a torsen the other tire will turn the other direction. If it's an Auburn it won't turn until you put it in neutral, and after you do that both tires will turn the same direction.

If the Clutches are shot in the Auburn, they will turn with it in Park..it will act like a normal open Differential.
