Default Trading rear ends... i have 3 ch he has 4ch... how to do it.

Me and another Member on here are considering swapping out rear ends. I want his 3.23 stock rear end, and he wants my 3.73 rear end.

My 3.73 rear end is a 3 channel.
His 3.23 rear end is a 4 channel.

We have both done a little research, but are still a little confused.

-He says he does not care if he looses traction control.
-Both of us want to retain ABS
-Both of us own tuning software (Me EFI Live, him HP Tuners)

I have heard that the body plug is the same on 4 channel and 3 channel cars.

If we simply swap harnesses, can both of us retain ABS (Assuming we make whatever changes necessary in our tuning software for changing 3/4 channel)

Thanks for any info that can be provided. We want this to be as painless and simple as possible, and hopefully can make it work.

You can't do anything with HP Tuners and brakes.

The best thing you could do is leave the gears and carrier in the housings they're in so there is no set up.

Then drill a hole in the 4 channel housing for the 3 channel sensor. The casting is the same, it's just not drilled on a 4 ch.
Then install the 3ch reluctor wheel and sensor on the 4 ch housing.

Swap over the axles and brake backing plates.

Find a way to plug the now un-needed hole in the top of the 3ch rear thats now a 4ch rear, or leave an old sensor in it.

So the wiring is different in a 3ch vs 4ch (body harness)?

Well.. we read all that... but thats assuming you are trying to convert.

We wanted to know if we simply swapped harnesses if it would work.

NO swaping harnessis will not work. channel uses 1 speed sensor on the carrier itself and 4 channel has 2 speed sensor out on the axles. The reluctors have a different number of teeth on them. I could go into more detail but it just doesn't work

I dont know how to put into words what im asking here....

Obviously both cars have the same PCM's... so somewhere along the way it just has to be a different wiring harness.

Are you saying the body wiring harness (not the part that is actually on the rear end going to the sensors) is different for a 3channel and 4channel car?

Yes the sensor are different between 3 and 4 channel. But the abs modual is different. body harness is pobably the same. But 3 channel has 1 brake line going to the rear brakes where 4 channel has 2 brake lines.

But yes the sensors are completely different and one will not work with the other.

Ok thats what i needed to know. If it was just a wiring thing then i was gona try to make it work. I didn't think about the brake lines.

Thanks a lot man
