A Fab 9" from Midwest Chassis would be my suggestion. Give Eric @ Midwest a call he is a sponsor,he also sells Moser and Strange 9" rearends.

You could also check with Bob @ EPP on the Moser's.

I've driven with a spool on different cars and they never bothered me on the streets. Most of my driving is rural and interstate, the only time I notice the car has a spool is when turning in intersections.

The LS1 brakes are what you want to use, so you're good there.

I went one inch shorter on each side with my 9 inch rear, and went with a 6.5" backspace with 10" rims on my '99. I'm not sure what the standard backspacing is on a 3rd gen but it is 7.5" on a 4th gen. A 10" rim also fits on a 4th gen with a standard 7.5" backspacing on a full width rear. The sticky at the top of this section regarding wheels may hlp you out.

I'd go with the 3.70 gears with the 28" tall tire.
