What gear ratio do I have?
Hey guys.
Was taking the car up to Mikey at Rapid today with the wife following behind to bring me back home. Apparently my speedo is WAAAAAAY off. I told her the most I was going was about 75 but she said she was going almost 80 the entire trip. Oops.
Is there a way for me to pull the rear diff cover and somehow identify if I have the stock gear ratio or if the previous owner installed different gears and didn't compensate in the computer for it?
The last thing I need is a ticket because I think I'm doing 70 when I'm actually doing close to 80! Thanks!

THERE IS ANOTHER WAY TO TELL, jack the car up and put it on stands, and put it in nuetral
lay under the car and watch the driveshaft, use a ujoint as a reference, have the wife or a buddy spin the tire exactly one whole revolution. and you count how many times the drive shaft spins.
Example the tire is turned one whole turn and you see the driveshaft make three whole turns and then a half turn, your gear ratio is going to be a 3.42
if the driveshaft turns 3 full turns and then 3/4 of a turn then you would have 3.73 hope this helps.
If you are running larger diameter tires that will cause the problem you have described also.
