Angry Need advice!!!

Ok so i put my 99 T/A in the shop to have the rear rebuilt and add 4.10s. I got it back the other day and it whines just as bad as when it went in. The mech. told me the carrier was worn out so he couldnt get a good pattern. the best part is he said that i had to buy another gear set b/c he drove around on it and apperntly wore the crown off of the gears and cant get a pattern. How do i handel this he charged me 1200 to do the work!!! thanks, dane

i run a shop. if they just did rear end take it back to them a demand it be fixed right. they should of never let it leave if there was a problem. how many miles did you put on befor you brought it back? also ask them what tool they used to set up rear end.

i just installed 4.10 yesterday and make no noise at all. wes

Sounds like BS to me. Does this shop specialize in rear end setup or just try to do one here and there? I am betting they didn't really know what the hell they were doing, maybe that is why it took them 4 weeks to figure out. Usually about a day turnaround on a gear swap as long as there are no problems once things are apart ex. bad bearings, busted carrier, or some part not on hand.

i would take it back and raise hell. for 1200 every thing should be brand new. for a few hundred more you could have a new 12 bolt in there. next time go to your local forum on here and ask around for a good local shop. to do your whole rear is about a 4-5 hour job with the right tools

unless your housing is tweaked there should not be a problem. if he noticed a problem during assembly he should of called you and gave you some options befor he finished car and ruined your gears.
