Quick help - Pinion Depth
Quick help - Pinion Depth
Rebuilding rearend, installing new gears, etc. 4th gen 10 bolt, Motive Gear gears. Setting things up, want to check the pinion depth. The pinion face has 3.779 hand written on it - but that is too large to be from the pinion face to the axel centerline.
Am i overlooking something, or does something have to be subtracted?
thanks,
James

I use a honed out set up bearing and go by contact pattern.
You're lucky (maybe not) to even have a number on the pinion. A lot of new ones don't have any numbers leaving the depth setting tool and procedure useless.
With a set up bearing you can have it up and running before you find an answer online.
Especially true when I did my first R&P in the late 80's- no internet help, got that tip from a magazine or and old guy, forgot.
