Gear noise
I recently got some gm 4:10's installed and were very quiet at first. After only 100 easy miles they started wining terrible. My buddy also had same guy do his set-up with the same gears and his started after 20 miles. This guy is a excellent trans. and rear guy and has been in business for 40yrs. He told us after looking at the gears that he would bet on the ring gear not being properly heat treated causing it to "melt" down. So my friend already had his 2nd set put in and it's the same thing again. I'm not sure if anyone has had any problems with this or has any suggestions. Thanks!

7.5 gears sometimes will be quite at first and have the correct pattern on them but will move around and become noisy. Ive had a few do this in my cars. With that small and weak of a gear they tend to bend and twist easy.

Pretty normal, wouldn't worry about it unless it clunks bad when shifting or when putting into gear. I have installed about 20-30 R&P's in f-body's and just installed a set of 4.10s this weekend in the SS.
Also depends on what brand. Richmonds usually are very quite, Motive, Summit and Jegs all seam to make noise. And that is with a perfect setup .08 backlash.

broke in the 2nd set of gears yesterday and within 10 miles on the road it's the same thing again. I can't believe that these gears are that noisy in the car. I was thinking about getting a T/A girdle cover, is there any chance this will quiet things down any?
