Default Posi replacement instructions?

Heres the scenario, I got 2 10 bolts laying here.
1) 4 channel 3.23, 2001 car
2) 4 channel 3.42, don't know year.

The 3.23 needs the pinion rebuild, starting to howl and seizing up. The 3.42 rear is dead quiet and still all put together, but the posi is shot. Since my 3.23 rear is all apart and the posi was working fine, can I take that posi and put it in the 2nd rear?

I'd like to get that one 10 bolt together and sell it for a couple hundred, and scrap the housing and everything else from the other.

So can I swap the positrac from one to the other? Is it a ton of work? Does anybody have instructions to do so?

With any luck you would be able to swap the
3.23 carrier into the 3.42 with its pinion left
in place and reuse the same shim setup etc.
There's always a chance that the tolerances
will stack up wrong but I've gotten lucky with
blind swaps, I think the machining is pretty
tight.

If you were really careful you'd do all the pattern
check stuff anyway. And the howling could be in
the "good" Torsen, won't know until they're both
apart.

Maybe you'd be as well off selling the two as a
"kit" and not sinking the labor into it on your end.
You might get close to the same cash out of it
without the effort and/or "oops". Being as used
10-bolts are not going to see a lot of love or
trust no matter what you say you did.

The 3.23 rear is a series 2 carrier. The 3.42 is a series 3 carrier. So at minimum you need a spacer.

I just joined recently but have alot of experience with F bodies. You are right Slowhawk. A 3.23 10 bolt is a series two type axle. Thus, no spacer is necessary.
