Default Ford Trac lok

Hey Guys,

I haven't found much on this site, but it seems them Ford guys are running the Ford Trac Lok diff to pretty low times. Anyone on here have experience with these, they are oem in the 03-04 cobras w/8.8...

They are OEM in a lot of Ford vehicles with the 8.8, but the ones in the 03-04 Cobra have better clutch packs and stronger.

I used to have a 2002 GT with about 300rwhp. It had a new stock TracLok out of an Expedition. It lasted about 20-25 passes with 6k rpm clutch drops on slicks before it needed rebuilt.

But the Cobra version is definitely stronger....

Yeah, I just wonder if you can get the cobra type clutches for the 9" version, I believe they are just carbon fiber. That ain't bad reliability out of a stock expedition version, there are obviously upgrades you can do to make it better.

The 8.8 Tracloc is the toughest posi unit available for the 8.8 IMO the only drag is the clutches wear out fairly quick and need replacing every couple seasons. I have not noticed any performance difference between the CF or the standard truck clutches in my experience. The main thing is to make sure you run the truck S spring to put more pre load on the clutches as this makes it bite harder. I also like to use Quaker state full syn GL-5 75w140 with NO ADDITIVE. Works best in my experience

I know of more than a few cars in the 9's on an 8.8 running a Trac-Loc but as a good rule of thumb 10.0 or slower and its a no brain choice. Faster than 10.0 and street use is pretty much gone anyways so I'd look at a spool

I've tried the Torsen T2R and the Truetrac and other than a spool the T-Loc gets my vote

I'll be using one in a 9" this year. I know it won't last forever but it should be very streetable and is easy to rebuild.
