you have to press on a new reluctor ring, why was it welded on in the first place?

that's the reluctor ring for the abs sensor, normally pressed onto the carrier. seeing the socket head cap screws on the bearing caps, that rearend has been worked on in the past. whomever did the work probably broke the reluctor ring while attempting to press it on and made a quick, but incorrect, fix by welding it on. you can make that same fix,but you see the results of that.

Thats the first time ive ever seen one welded on!!!, When i replace a ring, i heat them up in a oven and set them on a cool carrier, and let them cool to room tenp. and there very tight. This is the same way I put on a ring gear on a standard flywheel starter ring. And never had one slip.
And welding to the cast steel carrier, will not hold with just a mig with mild steel wire. You will need to weld it with a nickel alloy rod or wire. and needs to be preheated.

Just take it off and unplug the abs sensor.

i took it to a local welder and had that bitch welded on in 8 spots. no more abs light .. and it slipped right on and off so im assuming its not meant to be pressed on

Yes, it suppose to be pressed on.And there very tight at that. Yours must have slipped at one time. Is the rearend in your car the original one or did you buy the car used. That the first one ive seen welded, and ive built a few of them my self. But as long as the weld holds it will be fine.

just put some more welds on it, it will be fine. its not like we are talking about crank bearings here.

BUT, If it brakes loose again you may not be so lucky. I could get tangle up in the ring gear and destroy the rearend. If it was me i would drive for a few weeks and take the cover off and check and see if theres and cracked welds. If you notice the weld it self did not brake , the casting did. The weld pulled out the carrier. Thats what i would be worried about. Unless it was welded with a nickel alloy
