Default 2.73-3.42

my car has a stock 10 bolt with 2.73's in it and is a daily driver. i want to get some better track times. if i put in a 3.42 rear with drag radials just for the track will this mess with anything computer wise?

i can easily switch between rears just for the track cause i need the car to dd, just wanna know if runnin it with higher gears w/o re-calibrating the speedo will make the car run bad? thanks.

shift points will most likely be off, might bang the limiter a few times.

if you are just changing the gears make sure you get 3.42's for a 2 series carrier.

The shift ponits will be out to lunch, It probably won't full throttle shift without resetting the shift tables. And won't last long with drag radials. How are you running 12's with bolt on's and 2.73 gears? Cause my car is super slow then.

I went from 2.73 to 4.11, and never had a problem with shift points or bouncing off the rev limiter. I also went from 4.11 to 3.42 and no problems eather. And i have not had the computer tuned.
It will be fine to change the gear, the spedo will just be off a little...

Shouldn't have any computer issues...like mentioned your speedo will be off. IMO if you don't do a lot of hwy/frwy driving and it's mainly a track car,, I would bump it up and do 3.73's

Got ya. In that case the 3.42 would be a better choice for your application.

Going from a 2.73 rear end to a 3.23 rear end I was hitting the rev limiter, so its all in the tune. With regards to the rear end swap. I guarantee you will be rethinking that swapping rear ends back and forth. That is a lot of work, I've done it a couple of times and really don't care to do it again.

12.68 here, mods in my sig. Went 12.72 @ 108 on the stock converter and suspension (and a mineshaft DA). You just need to run in good weather.

Oh, well it's the DA that's killing you. I sometimes run in sea level conditions; the 12.68 in my sig was in a -6 DA.

HE SPEAKS THE TRUTH. I just finished swapping in a 3.42 rear for my 2.73. VERY happy with the results. BUT...I don't know if my unibody has flexed or what, but it was a BITCH to get the rear suspension reinstalled.

Not going to be doing that again any time soon. My back still hurts.

None yet. I plan on it though, the GPS is my speedometer for now. I would definitely like to have the shift points redone, at least so it'll hold 1st for a bit longer. Don't know much about these things. As soon as I find a good tuner somewhere pretty close to Central VA, its off to the races.

You'll be happy with the results though. 2.73's blow.
