Default Broke my Moser 9in Gearset

Yep, sheared 7 teeth off of the ring gear and chipped the pinion up pretty good. ON A NITTO, wtf???? I thought at first it was the driveshaft, , and then thought it was the TruTrac, but after pulling the center section, it's just the gears. Is this normal? On a Nitto??? lol

Time for a new geasrset, the TruTrac lives to see another day..

btw, 4.11 gears, MN12 transmission, somewhere between 530 and 560rwhp, Nitto R2 305/35/18s.

Rear suspension setup is BMR springs and Koni shocks.

Wow...sheared teeth and created a golf ball. Impressive. Certainly worth a very thorough disassembly and inspection of the trutrac.

Ahh yes, the mighty 9" proves not to be infallible after all. You can break any rear end if you dead hook. You should always make sure your tires have enough air in them to spin slightly off the line so you're not shocking the driveline excessively. Although I fail to see how you could possibly dead hook on those Nittos with that much power. Something else must have been going on... I'm going to guess improper heat treating on the gearset.

will, thats weird dude. I would also suspect a week gear set, as i doubt your hooking that on the street with nittos. especially in an 18

Dead hooking should not tear up a set of gears, many people deadhook these rears on a weekly basis without hurting the gears. My Camaro is proof, as can be seen in the picture below. I also suspect improper heat treating of the gears. Bob

Damn. Now that's how you tear up a gear set. I have to agree must not have been install right or the heat cycle thing. Once you tear it down let us know.

He was at the track making some passes on the 18" Nittos when it occurred. In fact, the car was spinning and he eased off to let it "catch up", and it broke at that time.

There's no way this should have happened if everything was properly accounted for. I feel the pinion depth was quite possibly set to shallow. Has anyone payed attention to the wear pattern of the gears?

I guess there is a chance the heat treating process could be the culprit, but, if so, how long would it take that to take its toll? Reason I say that, is this gear set has survived high 1.4s, low 1.5s on ET Drags putting some light under the front rubber, and this was a few years ago.

At any rate, it sucks it happened at all, especially with no more tire than you had out back, and with how strong the 9 inches reputation is. Perfect time to swap ratios if you were wanting to
