98 stock gears?
I have a 98 T/A 6speed and was wondering how do I find what gears I have, is it in the vin or is there a tag on the rear end like my thirdgen.. Seems like a stupid question but I just got the car..Thanks..

3.42
The codes on the door can also tell you, but I'm not sure where to look them up. A search should tell you about it. RPO codes I believe is what they are called.
But 6 speeds came with 3.42 stock.
If you want to check and see if your gears have been modified, get up to 89 mph in 6th gear. You should be at almost exactly 2000 RPM.

I have been wondering the gears in my 98 camaro Z28 A4. I looked and my code says that I have 3.23 but in 4th gear i run approx 2500 rpm @ 75mph. Is this right, what gears do I have. I was under the impression that they were 3.42. PLease help.

yes, V8, Auto cars never came with 3.42s...i believe the V6s did when ordered with Y87 package but thats irrelevant. you have 3.23s. the RPM sounds about right.
